Lubricants

Lubricants

Lubricants are used in scuba in many applications from putting hoses on, rebuilding regs, greasing camera o-rings and many more things.    There are two main types of O-ring Lubricants   Silicone Grease (DO NOT USE WITH OXYGEN) Silicone grease is what is commonly seen at most small shops.  It is inexpensive and does its job.  Now I know this does not sound like I believe in silicone and just so there is no confusion I do not believe in it.  It is inexpensive so if you want to bath in it or use it on your skin go ahead and buy the cheap stuff. If you want a lubricant that handles heat better and last longer look below.   Christolube (Oxygen Compatible lubricants) Ok, well here is the grease you should have.  It is better quality grease.  This is the same grease that most manufacturers are using on their regulators   Johns Quick Tip’s: A Little Dab Will Do Ya    Most people we see use way to much grease on their o-rings.  Lubricants are used for one thing lubricating not for sealing.  The o-ring does the sealing the grease is only there to keep the o-rings from getting pinched and protect it from erosion. So please do us all a favor and so no to over lubrication.
