Each of these solutions has its limitations. For example: Both surgical tubing and shock cord can roll along the side of the tank, making them harder to manage. Surgical tubing oxidizes rapidly and, thus, wears out quickly. Shock cord can be difficult to fasten securely. Inner tube sections can be difficult to get a grip on. No "do it yourself" solution is cosmetically appealing.
