John’s Quick Tips: O-ring Types and Lubrication
Buna
This is your standard o-ring used in most regulators and lights. There is nothing wrong with a buna o-ring they have a long life and inexpensive.
Viton
This is a better quality o-ring then the buna o-rings. The viton o-ring holds up better to heat and oxiders this is why it is used in oxygen compatible regulators.
Urethane
This is higher duro meter oring for the outstanding wear and tear resistance. They are great for tank valve face orings.
Lubricating O-rings
This is one of those things that most people overdue. When you are lubricating an O-ring you only need a little bit. The o-ring grease is there to keep the oring from pinching. It is not there to make a seal.
